Representatives of international road transport companies recommended taking into account the challenges encountered by some professionals, particularly concerning the regulation of contractual rates for maritime transport. During a working session chaired by Transport Minister Rabie Majidi, in the presence of representatives from international transport companies and officials from the transport Ministry, they emphasised the need to ease transit procedures, especially for those holding the status of Authorised Economic Operator (AEO). The meeting shed light on concerns related to security and safety measures adopted at the Port of La Goulette and the Port of Rades. It also addressed mechanisms used to enhance the quality of services and ensure financial liquidity so as to keep the competitiveness of their operations, reads a statement of the Transport Ministry. Minister Majidi expressed his department's commitment to reviewing the recommendations as well as taking measures to meet professionals' demands while creating favorouble working conditions so that they fulfill their activities at best. Participants agreed to bridge the perspectives of all stakeholders at the ports of La Goulette and Rades and organise meetings in their effort to make sound decisions. Furthermore, they aim to monitor the implementation of these decisions within the safety and security commission of both ports. Data from 2018 on international freight transport shows that the sector has 3,000 active international carriers operating in the import sector via seven ports across the country.
