Local elections: Filing candidatures kicks off

Filing candidatures for the 2023 local elections kicked off on Monday in 27 centres covering the regional election authorities, and will last till Novemebr 1. This operation kicked off at 8 a.m. and will last till 8 p.m. in all centres nationwide, said President of the Independent Higher Authority for the Elections (ISIE) Farouk Bouasker. Hundreds of candidates had come to file their applications for the local elections, Bouasker stated to the media, considering this to be an “encouraging” indicator for this 1st day. The presence of a large number of candidates will have a positive and significant impact on the voter turnout at the polls next December 24, he added. The ISIE President further indicated that each candidate will receive a list of any missing documents, so that they can complete their file within the deadline. These elections, first of their kind, will be held in 2,155 constituencies with a view to electing 279 local councils to set up a National Council of Regions and Districts. The chosen candidates will be announced before November 28, after the expiry of the deadline for challenges.
