Loroum: Women voice their grievances to the head of the province

Titao: As a prelude to the 167th International Women’s Day and the 7th National Women’s Forum, the High Commissioner of Loroum province, Djibril Bassolé, chaired a meeting of consultation with the women of the province to collect their grievances to present to the President of the Transition.

The consultation meeting between the High Commissioner of the Loroum province, Djibril Bassolé and the women of Loroum, was held on Wednesday February 7, 2024 in Titao and aimed at four major objectives.

This involves taking stock of the implementation of the recommendations and commitments of the 6th national women’s forum, discussing with women the factors limiting their socio-economic empowerment, collecting women’s grievances to present to the President of the Transition and to encourage the support of women in the dynamic of promoting community entrepreneurship.

Traditional and religious leaders and association leaders were also involved in this meeting.

In the opinion of the participants, the meeting made it po
ssible to have frank exchanges with the provincial authority.

‘I am satisfied with this meeting. With these types of meetings, I think we will be able to understand women’s real concerns and address them,’ said association leader Saidou Niampa.

A leader of the women’s association, Salimata Niampa, said that if the concerns raised by them find favorable responses, they will be relieved.

‘I hope that these types of meetings are held regularly. In turn, I will report to the women in my area,’ she added.

The provincial women’s coordinator, Aminata Porgo, also noted satisfaction, but calls for a strengthening of the security system to free the locality from the influence of armed groups.

‘We submitted several concerns and noted our readiness for APEC implementation. However, it must be said that the first obstacle to our development is the insecurity which blocks the road linking Titao to Ouahigouya. Once this lane is freed, the rest will go normally,’ said Aminata Porgo.

She hoped that efforts to secure the
territory could be increased in the area in order to facilitate the free movement of people and goods in the locality.

The High Commissioner of Loroum province, Djibril Bassolé, clarified that ‘We were able to identify women’s concerns. They are linked to the intervention of projects and programs and NGOs with a view to strengthening the resilience of women at the local level.

For Mr. Bassolé, women have reaffirmed their support for popular shareholding.

‘We will convey these concerns to the hierarchy,’ underlined the High Commissioner of the province.

Back in Titao since October 2023, High Commissioner Djibril Bassolé is increasing consultation sessions with the local community in order to get to grips with the realities of the populations.
