Mining industries: from now on, pouring, weighing and packing will be done in front of representatives of the Burkinabè state

Ouagadougou: The Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Yacouba Zabré Gouba, signed protocols of understanding with mining companies on Friday, which should now allow public officials to participate casting, weighing, packing and controlling the quality and quantity of the production of gold and other precious substances. For the head of the mines department, the participation of these state agents is an important step in the implementation of one of the state's sovereign missions, namely the monitoring and control of mining extraction. 'This protocol will allow the State to have convincing elements to ensure expertise in the laboratories of the Bureau of Mines and Geology of Burkina (BUMIGEB), particularly in terms of quantity and quality,' declared Minister Yacouba Zabré Gouba. It also provides information to provide a second opinion on all mining production. The first control missions are expected soon, assured the Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries. For his part, the president of the Chamber of Mines of Burkina, Osseni Derra, also Managing Director of the Canadian company Or Jaune, believes that this convention is welcome because the mining companies were waiting for these protocols to restore trust with the population. Since 2009, the mining sector has been one of the most dynamic and brings more revenue to the state budget. Until the signing of this protocol, monitoring of mining activity was limited to basic exploration activities. Source: Burkina Information Agency
