Mobile internet costs: ARCEP asks Burkinabè to trust it

The Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Posts (ARCEP) on Friday asked Burkinabè to trust it and give a chance to ongoing consultations, with a view to reducing the mobile internet cost.

"While asking the Burkinabé people to trust ARCEP and to give the ongoing consultations a chance, I would like to reassure the population that ARCEP shares their legitimate demands and is in the process of deploying to respond to their various requests,” said Patrice Compaoré, its executive secretary, at a press conference on Friday.

Mr. Compaoré's exit comes in a context where he has been campaigning for a few days on the networks demanding, among other things, the reduction of mobile Internet prices.

“I would like to reassure the public that the phones were very sensitive to our approach. As soon as possible, the consultations that we initiated this very morning will continue so that, in the end, the interest of the consumer, which is our reason for existing, is the most plausible criterion in stopping new pricing in perspective”, he added.

According to Webdlassida Patrice Compaoré, ARCEP is working in tandem with all the players for a global solution to the satisfaction of customers above all.

He also specified that the re-reading of the decree on the procedures for establishing and controlling the prices of electronic communication services will enable ARCEP to regulate the prices.

For the director general of Telecel Faso Boris Compaoré, ARCEP and the promoters of the various parties are always in consultation to be able to propose solutions which make it possible to offer the populations better services at the best prices.

He also stressed that we must guarantee the sustainability of the sector which is necessary for the development of our country in a very difficult context for the whole of Burkina Faso.
