Mobile internet costs in Burkina: A comparative study of tariffs in sight, according to ARCEP

While anger is mounting on social networks about the high cost of mobile internet, the electronic communications and postal regulatory authority (ARCEP) intends to carry out a comparative study of tariffs in the WAEMU zone, in order to take “the relevant costs”.

"For the reduction of tariffs in the WAEMU area, we have a committee of telecommunications regulators and we have taken it upon ourselves to make a comparative study of the retail tariffs practiced in this community" affirmed the director of the regulation of the fixed and mobile markets. of ARCEP, Salamata Rouamba.

According to her, for a drop in retail tariffs, you have to do a study, assess the costs and take the relevant costs.

This study is part of the regulatory authority's program of activities for 2023, Ms. Rouamba added.

As a reminder, Internet users supported by several celebrities have been leading a digital campaign for several days to force mobile telephone operators to lower mobile Internet prices.

Mrs. Roumba indicated that the debate is legitimate, but that the operators are free to fix the prices and this in transparency.
