Olive oil exports up 54% (10 months of the 2022/2023 harvest)

The value of olive oil exports recorded an increase of 54% in the first ten months of the 2022/2023 harvest,, reaching 2,972 million dinars (MD), compared to the same period of the previous harvest (2021-2022). In terms of volume, exports of olive oil reached, from November 1, 2022 to August 31, 2023, 175,669 tonnes, an increase of 2%, according to data published by the National Oil Office (ONH). The average export price thus recorded an increase of 51%, going from 11,185 D/tonne to 16,917 D/tonne. Regarding varieties, extra virgin olive oil represents 89% of the total quantity exported. The national olive oil production will reach nearly 200,000 tonnes during the 2022-2023 harvest, recording a drop of around 20% compared to the previous 2021/2022 harvest, CEO of the National Oil Office (ONH) Hamed Dali Hssan told TAP in November 2022. The decrease in the harvest for this 2022-2023 harvest is explained by climatic factors marked by the lack of precipitation and the rise in temperatures, the official pointed out. The increase in olive oil prices, resulting from the reduction in production in the world, will push Tunisia to export smaller quantities of olive oil at the same value. The volume of exports amounts to 80% of national production.
