The outcomes of Tunisia’s participation in the African Union High-Level Committee on Libya, held in Brazzaville on February 5, was the focus of a meeting held between President Kais Saied and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad Nabil Ammar, Friday in Carthage.
President Saied reiterated Tunisia’s steadfast position that the solution in Libya can only be inter-Libyan, stemming solely from the will of the Libyan people. “Any foreign intervention in Libyan affairs will exacerbate the situation,” he was quoted in a Presidency statement.
The Head of State reminded that a number of conferences were held without representatives of the Libyan people and as a result they failed to find any real solutions.
He emphasised Tunisia’s commitment to the unity of the Libyan state, asserting that “Libya, even when its state structure was federal at times, has always been unified.”
The meeting addressed the need to provide better services to Tunisians abroad in the shortest possible time, as it is
“unacceptable for a Tunisian national to travel hundreds of kilometres to obtain an administrative document, only to be asked to return at a later date.”
The President called for increasing coordination between missions abroad and relevant authorities in Tunisia so as to provide quality services to Tunisian expatriates.
