Regional Council of Unions of the Sahel: More than two billion FCFA invested in 4 years

The Regional Council of Unions of the Sahel (CRUS) organized its 15th ordinary general assembly on Saturday April 13, 2024 in Dori in order to take stock of four years of activity and renew its executive office . Nearly two hundred participants, members of 62 unions, came from Séno, Soum, Yagha and Oudalan to take part in this meeting. According to the CRUS coordinator, Boubacar Cissé, in four years of activity, this umbrella organization has made more than two billion FCFA in transfers to needy and vulnerable people. According to him, the CRUS has distributed or sold at a social price more than 4,200 tonnes of cereals and livestock feed. Mr. Cissé added that as part of the recapitalization of the region hard hit by insecurity and its corollaries, 2,600 head of cattle and sheep were distributed to vulnerable households. And the CRUS coordinator adds that his structure has supported several hundred households, accompanied by market gardener cooperatives and fish farmers. In the opinion of its coordinator , despite this rosy picture, the CRUS has experienced difficulties over the past four years. These are the drop in funding due to the departure of partners, the relocation of certain projects and the internal displacement of populations including 14 members out of the 16 who make up the executive office. In order to continue the fight for the resilience of breeders, farmers and fish farmers in the Sahel, the assembly elected a new office of 16 members, led by Koura Adama. The CRUS, it should be remembered, was created in 1989 and recognized in 1993. It is made up of 4 federations and 1997 groups of breeders, farmers and fish farmers from the Sahel. This general assembly, during which participants were entitled to a communication on social cohesion, recorded the presence of the regional director in charge of agriculture, livestock and fisheries resources of the Sahel, Mr. Hié Abidiasse. He came to testify to the availability of his service to support the CRUS. In his closing remarks, the president of the CRUS thanked the participants who, despite the insecurity, made the trip to Dori, proof of their resilience and their attachment to their umbrella organization.
