Sahel: Artisanal mining activities are suspended

The governor of the Sahel region, Lieutenant-Colonel Fabien P. Rodolphe Sorgho, in a press release dated March 28, 2023, suspended artisanal mining activities for security reasons on the extent of the regional territory.

It was in a press release dated March 28, 2023 that the Governor of the Sahel region, Lieutenant-Colonel Fabien P Rodolphe Sorgho informed the general population and artisanal miners in particular that the mining activities of artisanal operations are suspended for security reasons throughout the regional territory.

This suspension covers a period of three renewable months from April 15 to July 14, 2023.

This suspension does not concern the gold panning sites of Tambiri in the municipality of Sebba and Solhan Center in the municipality of Solhan.

"Any potential offender of this measure will not only be exposed to the rigor of the law but will also assume full responsibility for the irreversible consequences that may result without any prejudice," reads the press release.

The governor says he knows how to count on the sense of responsibility and civility of the actors of the gold panning activity and the populations of the Sahel region for a strict respect of the terms of this press release.
