Seasonal malaria: More than 50,000 children to be protected in Zondoma

The second round of the seasonal malaria chemoprevention campaign opened on Wednesday August 17, 2023 throughout the Gourcy health district. More than 50,000 children will be affected.

After the first round of the seasonal malaria chemo-prevention campaign (CPS) which took place from July 20 to 23, 2023, the second was launched on Wednesday August 17, 2023 over the entire extent of the Gourcy health district which covers 41 Health and Social Promotion Centers (CSPS) across the province.

According to officials of the health district of Gourcy, this campaign, which concerns children aged 3 to 59 months, made it possible to reach more than 50,000 children in the province of Zondoma during the first visit, representing a coverage rate of around 106%.

The same performance is expected from health workers and volunteers deployed in the field during this second phase which ends on August 20, 2023.

According to the organizers, the operation will take place in a fixed center in the CSPS and in an advanced strategy, namely door to door, in public places, markets and yaars, etc.

As a reminder, the chemo-prevention of seasonal malaria coupled with screening for malnutrition implemented by the Burkinabè health authorities, aims to protect children under five against malaria throughout the rainy season favorable to the disease.
