President Bassirou Diomaye Faye expressed Monday his desire to establish with the European Union (EU) a partnership 'rethought, renovated and fertilized by a shared vision of a more international order fair and reflecting the realities of today's world . ''We want a partnership rethought, renovated and fertilized by a shared vision of a fairer international order reflecting the realities of today's world. A partnership adapted to changes and capable of supporting the innovative dynamic that we want to imprint on our relationships,'' said President Faye. He spoke on Monday after an audience at the Palace of the Republic with the President of the European Council Charles Michel visiting Dakar. ''We discussed multifaceted cooperation between the European Union and Senegal. I expressed to President Michel my thanks for the EU's support to our country in several areas such as water, energy, agriculture, health, transport, digital technology, youth and employment, continued the head of state. President Faye tha nked the head of the European Council who was ''the first support for Africa's membership in the G20 for more balance and inclusiveness in global governance''. Before the President of the European Council, Bassirou Diomaye Faye launched an appeal to 'friends and partners of Senegal for more support in the realization of our program for a sovereign, just and prosperous Senegal'. He recalled the priorities of the new authorities which revolve around ''an endogenous economic model of industrialization with the primary sector as a launching pad: agriculture, livestock and fishing''. ''But we also want the strengthening of economic infrastructure such as railways, electrification, telecommunications and the road network,'' he said. The gradual reduction of the budget deficit is also a priority for the Senegalese government, according to Bassirou Diomaye Faye. ''This reduction in the budget deficit will involve improving the quality of public spending and more efficient taxation with a tax payment mechanism wh ere wealth is created and a relentless fight against tax evasion'', he said. In front of the President of the European Council, Bassirou Diomaye Faye 'welcomed' European investors whose companies have proven skills in these different sectors. ''Together, we want to do more and better to strengthen Senegalese European friendship and cooperation. My availability will be constant to work with European partners in this direction,'' assured Bassirou Diomaye Faye. The meeting with the President of the European Council also focused on other subjects of common interest such as the situation in the Sahel, facing the challenge of the fight against terrorism, "because we are aware that peace and stability of our two continents are closely linked . ''Everything that affects one necessarily affects the other,'' observed Bassirou Diomaye Faye. Source: Burkina Information Agency
