Sissili/Ophthalmological Campaign: Around sixty people regain their sight thanks to a team of German surgeons

Léo, The German medical and surgical center “Dr Boukaré Sebego” in Léo, in collaboration with a German operieren in Africa team, organized an ophthalmological surgery campaign from October 8 to 14, 2023 within the said medical center.

In one week of surgical campaign, a total of around forty people suffering from cataracts were treated by Doctor Andrea and his team. In addition, 600 people who also had low visual acuity benefited from corrective lenses.

According to the director of the German Léo medical center, Omar Ouédraogo, the major innovation of this campaign is the laser treatment of glaucoma.

“This technology made it possible to treat around twenty patients,” rejoiced Mr. Ouédraogo.

According to him, the interventions are free, only the implants are paid for by the patients.

For him, it is a feeling of satisfaction that emerges with regard to the service provided to the population.

“At the end of this campaign, all patients indicate that their visual acuity has significantly improved. We can only congratulate ourselves on the good results obtained at the end of this campaign which qualitatively contributed to bringing light to all these people who had been suffering for years,” he added.

For Mr. Ouédraogo, the support of German specialists comes at the right time in that it will make it possible to provide quality care to many poor people.

He also called on the population to come regularly for ophthalmology consultations because it allows certain pathologies to be detected and treated early to avoid complications.

He finally expressed all his gratitude to the German team for everything they do to improve the health of the populations of Sissili.

The head of the German team, Dr Andréa, was pleased with the smooth running of the campaign.
