‘SNC 2024: Sanmatenga aims for the podium’, declares Ousséni de Adama Ouédraogo, provincial director of culture

With only one artistic troupe at the last National Culture Week, the province of Sanmatenga will be present from April 27 to May 4, 2024 with this time 55 actors distributed in 5 categories. A few days before this cultural event, the provincial director of culture takes stock of the level of preparation of the actors in his area. Ousséni de Adama OUEDRAOGO (OAO) remains optimistic despite the difficulties of all kinds that mark the preparations. AIB: The Sanmatenga province has always participated in the SNC. What about the 21st edition? OAO : Despite the security crisis and its repercussions on the populations, the province of Sanmatenga will participate in the SNC. She returns in force to this cultural event with 55 actors divided into young hen dance, instrumental music, orchestra, ballet, traditional song stars, culinary arts and wrestling. We deplore the absence of famous troops from Barsalogho, Mané, Pibaoré and Pissila due to the security situation. AIB: What is the innovation for this edition? OAO : The Sanmatenga participates with several troupes and stars, unlike a single troupe during the last edition. It is a comeback to mark the resilience of populations in the face of the dual security and humanitarian crisis. For this edition, we have a special troupe made up of children from displaced populations. This young troupe intends to leave its mark at the SNC 2024. AIB: What is the level of preparation of the actors for this competition? OAO: The level of preparation is satisfactory. We carry out supervision visits to all competing troops in order to provide them with the necessary support for optimal performance. We are deploying this supervision tour schedule without encountering any major difficulties. What we have already observed is satisfactory and reassures us about the progress of the competitions. AIB: What difficulties are you encountering in the preparations? OAO: The precariousness of the financial means to acquire instruments as well as appropriate costumes is clearly visible during ou r visits to cultural actors. The lack of appropriate rehearsal frameworks is also a concern. Added to this is the lack of expertise to supervise actors in certain categories. AIB: How do you plan to overcome these difficulties to ensure honorable participation from the province? OAO: For management, we have implemented internal solutions to remedy this. We called on local skills, notably former glories, for this purpose. We intend to contact the municipal and regional authorities to obtain a suitable room for a dress rehearsal for all the troops before their departure for Bobo. AIB: With all these difficulties, is there hope? OAO: Despite the difficulties we face, we remain hopeful. Sanmatenga aims for the podium of the 21st edition of the SNC. In the absence of first place, we are loving for at least second. In particular, the orchestra and the Laafi la Bumbu troupe of sector 5 in young hen dance received significant support from regulars of the National Culture Week such as Habibou Sawadogo and alumni o f the Sanmatenga provincial orchestra. AIB: Do you have an appeal to make? OAO: I appeal to culture lovers, to the daughters and sons of the province, to truly invest in culture and to support the actors for an honorable participation of the province. Particularly in terms of financial support so that the actors can acquire the appropriate instruments and costumes. We will return from Bobo with many honors. I also call on local authorities to create spaces for cultural expression for the benefit of stakeholders and support them throughout the regional week and beyond during the SNC. It is by investing in culture that Sanmatenga will regain its former glory in terms of culture. Source: Burkina Information Agency
