SNC Bobo 2023: Discovering Living Human Treasures from Burkina Faso ( 2 )

Bobo-Dioulasso, 17 living human treasures from Burkina Faso were selected on December 22, 2015 on the basis of their achievements and their willingness to transmit their knowledge and know-how to young people. We went to find a few.

Pia Dabire

She was born in 1969 in Dissin in the province of Ioba, she became famous in traditional music. She is a talented traditional musician, who plays several instruments and sings in different local languages. She was proclaimed THV in Performing Arts.

Martine Ouedraogo

She was born on January 1, 1964 Kouila in the province of Oubritenga. She is a renowned chef, who has developed many traditional recipes and adapted them to more modern tastes. She is also involved in the training of young chefs in Burkina Faso. It has been proclaimed THV in traditional craftsmanship.

Denis R. Kabore

He was born around 1888 in Kandatenga in the province of Ganzourgou, he distinguished himself in traditional dyeing. He has mastered plant-based dyeing techniques to create colorful and durable textiles. It has been proclaimed THV in traditional craftsmanship.

Kaye Tintama

She was born in 1941 in Tibélé in the province of Nahouri and became famous in traditional architecture and wall decoration. She is an architect and artist who creates patterns and murals inspired by local traditions. It has been proclaimed THV in traditional craftsmanship.

Zoubire Boureima Sia

He was born in 1943 in Zécco in the province of Nahouri and is a renowned master leather craftsman in Burkina Faso. He is known for his exceptional craftsmanship in making leather bags and shoes. He developed his skills as an autodidact and trained many young artisans in his leather workshop. It has been proclaimed THV in traditional craftsmanship.

Sambo Benjamain Ouedraogo

He was born around 1941 in Birou in the province of Bam and is also a master leather craftsman and one of the pioneers of leather goods in Burkina Faso. It is known for its high-quality leather bags, belts and shoes, which are highly prized by tourists and locals. It has been proclaimed THV in traditional craftsmanship.

Larba Kabore

He was born in 1946 in Tingsobodogo in the province of Ganzourgou. He is a master craftsman in the manufacture of the Boargo, a traditional horn-shaped instrument used in ceremonies and rituals.

He learned the art of making this instrument from his father and has since honed his skills. He is known for the quality of his work and is highly respected in his community for his craftsmanship. He was proclaimed THV in Performing Arts.
