Some 56 projects achieved thanks to Mobi-tre project in its first phase (Ministry of Employment)

In its first phase, the Mobi-tre project has led to the achievement of 56 projects in the sectors of industry, agriculture, services and handicrafts, as well as the creation of 367 jobs.

This project is implemented under a joint Tunisian-Italian cooperation agreement between the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), with funding from the Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development (ACIS) estimated at pound 2 million, according to a Ministry of Employment press release.

17 projects were carried out in the governorate of Medenine, 8 in Jendouba, 7 in Tataouine, 5 in Kef and the remainder in Gafsa, Siliana, Tozeur, Bizerte, Kairouan, Mahdia, Sfax, Zaghouan and Béja, with 40% of these projects undertaken by women.

The Mobi-tre project aims to encourage people living overseas to create projects in partnership with citizens in their home regions, with a view to contributing to the creation of wealth and decent jobs in the north-west, south-east and regions where the unemployment rate is on the rise, according to the same source.

At a meeting of the Mobi-tre steering committee held on Monday to launch the second phase of the project, Chief of Staff to the Minister of Employment Abdelkader Jammali pointed out that each year Tunisia counts almost 90,000 graduates from higher education and training centres.

By 2024, he said, the ministry plans to provide nearly 125,000 job opportunities through contracts or internships, as well as programmes offered by the national employment fund.

TND 40 million will be earmarked in 2024 to boost private and collective initiative, with the aim of contributing to the creation of wealth and jobs in the regions, Jammali added.

Taking the floor, Italy's Ambassador to Tunisia Fabrizio Saggio commended the progress made in implementing cooperation projects with the Ministry of Employment, underlining the need to tailor skills to the needs of the labour market.

The Mobi-tre project is part of a new approach to the governance of labour migration, aimed at considering it as a source of economic, social and cultural wealth," said the ambassador.
