Strategies to promote women’s entrepreneurship, rural women’s empowerment under development (minister) [Upd 1]

Tunisia embarked on drafting a national strategy to promote women's entrepreneurship in small and medium-sized enterprises by 2035 , said Minister of Women, Family, Children and the Elderly Amel Belhaj Moussa. The announcement was made as she attended Tuesday a two-day regional meeting in Amman, Jordan, on women's economic participation in the Arab world. Efforts are also centered around the development of a national strategy to foster rural women's economic and social empowerment. Both strategies will help define guidelines and devise policies for the promotion of Tunisian women, the ministry said on Tuesday. The ministry started implementing two pilot economic empowerment experiences as part of the economic empowerment of the seasonal female farmhand project. This will allow them to carry out projets to promote origin products and increase enhance their ability to integrate in economic life. The minister shed light on measures geared towards women's promotion, including economic empowerment projects, and the promotion of social and solidarity economy. Economic empowerment programmes were developed by the ministry to address social challenges facing women. This mainly includes the economic empowerment programme for mothers of potential dropouts and the economic empowerment programme tailored to the needs of households with specific needs. The meeting is organised by the Jordanian National Commission for Women, in partnership with the Arab Women Organisation and the WoMENA regional project. The latter is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) to promote the political and economic participation of women in the MENA region. On the agenda of the meeting are mainly the state of affairs of women's economic participation and the importance of a supportive and safe work environment for Arab women.
