Tunis: President of the Tunisian Taekwondo Federation, Mohamed Ghannem, said that the impressive results achieved by the national team at the 13th African Games in Accra, Ghana, with nine gold, two silver and one bronze medal, were not the fruit of chance but the result of hard work. In a statement to TAP news agency, Ghannem explained that the results of Tunisia's participation were positive, noting that the African Games were an opportunity to see how fit the Tunisian taekwondo athletes who qualified for the "Paris 2024" Olympic Games were, and an opportunity for them to gain more experience and improve their world ranking. This is an unprecedented achievement that will encourage our athletes to shine in future competitions, particularly at the next Olympic Games, where Tunisia will be represented by four athletes, the maximum allowed for each country participating in the discipline (2 men and 2 women). He also announced that the Tunisian taekwondo athletes who qualified for the Paris Olympics, namely Kh alil Jendoubi (-63 kg), Firas Kattousi (-80 kg), Sheyma Toumi (-57 kg) and Ikram Dhahri (-49 kg), will embark on an intensive preparation programme that will include several training camps in Tunisia and abroad, as well as a series of participations in international camps such as the one in Estonia from April 24 to 28 and the one in Luxembourg from 8 to 9 June. As for the quartet's chances of qualifying for the Paris Olympics, the president of the Tunisian Taekwondo Federation pointed out that all the indicators are positive and suggest that the duo of Khalil Jendoubi and Firas Kattoussi will shine on the podium and go for gold. This is especially as Jendoubi leads the Olympic rankings in his weight category and Kattoussi is considered one of the best taekwondo wrestlers in the world today. On the women's side, he expressed his confidence in Tunisia's chances of going far in the competitions, saying that Sheyma Toumi has a good chance of reaching the podium, as does Ikram Dhahri, who has all the potential t o win the challenge of achieving a great feat.
