After the implementation of phase I in the province of Koulpélogo, from 2018 to 2020, OCADES Caritas Tenkodogo launched, on July 06, 2023, the "livelihood and empowerment project for vulnerable women and people with disabilities in Boulgou, 2nd phase ”.

The overall objective, according to the Diocesan Executive Secretary (SED), Father Mathieu Balima, is to improve the well-being of vulnerable groups, especially women and people with disabilities.

The second phase, which runs from 2023 to 2025, will, among other things, explained the man of God, the financial inclusion of people with disabilities and vulnerable people and the strengthening of the financial empowerment of beneficiaries.

Abbé Mathieu Balima, diocesan executive secretary (SED): “The project will improve the well-being of vulnerable groups”.

This project, continued the SED, will support the populations of six communes of the province of Boulgou in this case Tenkodogo, Bissiga, Bagré, Boussouma, Garango and Komtoéga.

"The beneficiaries will be equipped with knowledge of the VSLA method (village savings and credit association) as well as knowledge of farming and livestock techniques," explained Father Balima.

He further indicated that organizations of persons with disabilities in the areas covered by the project will also be taken into account.

The Tenkodogo workshop, specified the executive secretary, aims to enable the provincial authorities, the decentralized services of the State, the representatives of the villages and the direct beneficiaries to take ownership of the project.

The project, whose cost is estimated at 247 million CFA francs including 190 million CFA francs of direct cost, is jointly financed by Life for the light and Medicor.

The representative of Light for the World, Etienne Bagré, recalled that one of their projects in Burkina is economic empowerment, particularly that of vulnerable groups.

For him, the insecurity that has weakened communities has not forced his organization to retreat.

“On the contrary, we have found alternatives to continue promoting inclusive empowerment activities by adapting to the situation,” he said.

The high commissioner of the province of Boulgou, Constantin Dabiré, welcomed the initiative of OCADES and its partners who support the State in its development actions.

"By choosing to support women and people with disabilities in six municipalities in the province, you are making a significant contribution to improving the living conditions of the most vulnerable sections of our society but to sustainable development," he said.

He pointed out that although women constitute more than 50% of the population, they are the poorest. With regard to persons with disabilities, Mr. Dabiré said that respect for their rights and dignity goes through their access to employment and better living conditions.

Light for the world is an international development organization specializing in disability and whose vision is to build an inclusive society where no one is left behind.

3) Beneficiaries will be equipped with knowledge of village savings and credit associations and crop and livestock techniques.

It does this by working towards the economic empowerment of people with disabilities and the establishment of eye health services in low-income countries.
