‘Tunisia has a large stock of phosphate fertilizers and reserves which the AFA relies on’ (Secretary General of the UAE)

"Tunisia has a large stock of phosphate fertilizers and significant reserves which the Arab Fertilizer Association (AFA) heavily relies on," said its Secretary General Saad Ibrahim Abou Maaty Hassen. Taking the floor during a conference held, Tuesday in Tunis, by the Tunisian Chemical Group (GCT) in cooperation with the AFA on "the implementation of digital technology and artificial intelligence in the fertilizer sector," Abou Maaty Hassen said that Tunisia is making bold steps towards developing its economy by producing and exporting phosphate as well as transforming raw phosphate into other products. Tunisia is constantly developing its production in a bid to increase its production potential. The Tunisian Chemical Group has made great progress in this area, taking into account the quality of Tunisian phosphate, which is a national asset, the same source said. The Arab world has more than 80% of the world's reserves in all kinds of crude fertilizers, nitrogen, phosphate and potassium, which is found in Morocco, Tunisia, Jordan, Egypt, Algeria and Libya. He highlighted the important role of fertilizers, particularly in ensuring food security where Arab companies contribute up to 25% to the volume of global food production and in international trade around 30 to 50%. He said that the Arab Fertilizer Association is innovating its working methods, including the establishment of a platform helping fertilizer manufacturers and fertilizer traders with their transactions and everything related this field. He called for implementing global policies and laws on artificial intelligence, which has invaded all fields, including fertilizers and agriculture. In a statement, Chief of Staff of the Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, Ahlem Beji Sayeb, underscored that technology is a key factor in achieving sustainable development, as it helps maintain the environmental balance and solve various problems. She spoke of the importance of the fertilizer sector which highly depends on modern industry considering its eff ective role in increasing production and productivity, stressing that the work of the Ministry aims to promote and develop this sector, encourage innovation and green transformation and support investment in this area. Sayeb commended the role of the Tunisian Chemical Group in increasing agricultural production, through the production of ammonium and solving environmental problems within the production units in Gabes.
