UN Secretary General arrives in El-Arich, Egypt

CAIRO, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has arrived in El-Arich in Egypt's northern Sinai, Al-Qahira ai-Ihbariya TV reported.

According to his information, “Guterres arrived in El-Arich to go to the Rafah crossing point on the border with the Gaza Strip.” The UN Secretary General intends to personally control the passage of the first trucks which will deliver humanitarian aid to the inhabitants of the Palestinian enclave.

On the evening of October 17, Al-Ahli Hospital in the Gaza Strip was attacked. According to Palestinian information, 471 people were killed and 342 others injured. The Palestinian side blamed the Israeli Air Force for the incident, while Israel said the hospital explosion was caused by a botched missile strike by the Islamic Jihad group. Mourning was declared in Palestine, Syria, Egypt, Iran, Iraq and Lebanon.

The situation in the Middle East suddenly deteriorated on October 7 after an attack launched by Hamas from the Gaza Strip against Israeli territory. Hamas explains that this is a reaction to the actions of Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Israel imposed a complete siege on the Gaza Strip and began carrying out strikes against it and against parts of Lebanon and Syria. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank.
