Bobo-Dioulasso: 3,577 beggars removed from the streets benefit from reintegration training

Bobo-Dioulasso: The operation to remove and reintegrate people in a situation of begging made it possible to remove 3,577 beggars from the street in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso, to give them training on income-generating activities in order to enable their socio-professional reintegration, the AIB learned. According to the regional director in charge of humanitarian action in Hauts-Bassins, Wendkuni Benjamin Ouédraogo, the operation to remove and reintegrate people in a situation of begging recorded a total of 3,577 beggars, including 1,258 in the ranks of People internally displaced persons (IDPs) and 1,173 foreign beggars in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso, reports the daily Sidwaya. According to the same source, 132 young people including 80 girls and 32 boys benefited from 22 training sessions in sewing, dyeing, hairdressing, breeding, saponification, automobile mechanics, motorcycle mechanics and micro-project finance. According to Mr. Ouédraogo, the vision of the operation is to orient the targets in the f ield of peace. This is a field developed to usefully occupy IDPs in Farakoba for market gardening and agricultural production. The operation to remove and reintegrate people in a situation of begging was launched in October 2023 in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso and these figures result from the mid-term assessment. The same operation was launched in Ouagadougou on March 3, 2023. According to the minister in charge of humanitarian action and family, Nandy Somé, 'it is a way to remove these beggars from the arteries of the road, to educate children in the context of training and also protect any human person on the territory while protecting them from alternatives.
