Burkina/CIL: Five days of reflection for the protection of personal data

Ouagadougou: The Commission on Information Technology and Liberties (CIL) began discussions on Tuesday for a culture of personal data protection, with experts and students for five days. 'To establish within populations a culture of protection of personal data, the Commission for Information Technology and Liberties (CIL) obtained from the government the institutionalization of the date of March 30 of each year, as Day National Protection of Personal Data (JNPDP), ' said Dr Halguièta Nassa/Trawina. According to Ms. Nassa, who is also president of the CIL, her institution has started discussions and discussions with experts, researchers and students for a culture of personal data protection in Burkina Faso. The president of the CIL spoke on Tuesday in Ouagadougou, during a ceremony launching the commemorative activities of the second JNPDP under the theme 'Protection of personal data in a context of security crisis: Issues and perspectives'. Listening to it, for the 2024 edition, the CIL is organizing a se ries of activities aimed at promoting the right to protection of personal data, because it explains that there is no doubt that the current context is marked by massive collection of personal data by digital giants. 'This situation has become even more complex in view of the difficult security situation that our countries will face,' she maintained. Dr Halguièta Nassa/Trawina stressed that it is necessary to strengthen awareness on the protection of personal data in the country, hence the holding of a public conference for the benefit of students, as a prelude to the JNPDP on 30 March 2024. According to him, his institution wants each Burkinabè to be an actor for peace and to guarantee public security in a particular context of the fight against terrorism. The vice-president of the national organizing commission of the 2nd edition of the JNPDP, Hamidou Bandé, for his part noted that his institution wants to popularize the protection of personal data while playing its part in the fight for peace in Burkina Faso. Mr. Bandé and Secretary General of the CIL, indicated that this 2nd edition remains an opportunity for Burkinabè people to discuss good practices in the protection of personal data. He also noted that the discussions will allow debate on good citizen behavior in a context of security crisis. For the president of the Transitional Legislative Assembly (ALT) and patron of the ceremony, Dr. Ousmane Bougouma, many Burkinabè citizens use personal data in the digital age, in the context of IT and social networks (Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram). Dr Bougouma noted that the CIL is the body responsible for managing personal data issues in Burkina Faso.
