Burkina: Military justice opens investigation after deaths of civilians implicating soldiers

The military prosecutor announced on Friday the opening of a detailed investigation in order to shed light and draw all the legal consequences of the deaths of civilians involving soldiers, indicates a press release sent to the AIB.

As a reminder on the night of April 3 to 4, 2023, following the assassination of a soldier at his home in Dori, by six armed men, his brothers in arms attacked neighbors of the deceased and passers-by.

There are casualties and injuries.

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE MILITARY PROSECUTOR

In recent days, serious altercations have opposed civilians and soldiers in a district of the city of Dori, causing deaths and injuries.

These unfortunate and regrettable incidents were allegedly caused by misunderstandings. In order to shed light on the circumstances of these facts, the military prosecutor instructed the opening of a detailed investigation on April 7, 2023, which should allow appropriate legal action to be taken.

In view of the seriousness of the facts, the military prosecutor's office wishes to reassure the populations that all light will be shed on this affair in order to locate the responsibilities and draw all the legal consequences.

Following the command of the National Armed Forces, the prosecution of the military court presents its condolences to the families of the deceased and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured. He calls on the military to abandon these practices which undermine the essential Army-Nation link.
