Road safety in Ouagadougou: an association offers helmets to 100 students

The Youth Vision Burkina Faso Movement (MJV-BF) offered helmets to 100 students in district 4 of Ouagadougou on March 21, 2024, at the end of an awareness campaign on road safety, supported by the cement company Cimfaso, the AIB learned. ''As part of its activities to promote good practices in road safety, the Mouvement Jeunesse Vision Burkina Faso organized an awareness campaign in district 4 of Ouagadougou, with the support of the Cim Faso company. After more than 3 months of awareness raising for the benefit of hundreds of students and schoolchildren in public and private establishments in the district, the Movement organized on Thursday March 21, 2024, the closing of the campaign which was punctuated by a session awareness campaign followed by a donation of around a hundred helmets for the benefit of students and supervisors. Road accidents, it must be emphasized, are a major public health problem and almost half of the victims are pedestrians, motorcyclists and cyclists. They particularly affect the yo ung segment of the population and are undoubtedly today the main cause of death among young people aged 10 to 24. Young people, through ignorance or disinterest, attach little importance to respecting the highway code. As a result, accidents are increasing in traffic with the consequent consequence of considerable material and human damage. Most of these accidents cause enormous damage and, in the worst cases, loss of life. For the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Movement, the idea of ??the campaign was born from the observation that in Burkina Faso, young people are the most affected by road insecurity. This is justified by their behavior, their ignorance of the highway code, and general lack of citizenship. 'We will continue our actions according to our means because for us, the lives of our children and young brothers are priceless and deserve to be protected,' declared Léopold Kaboré, PCA of the MJV-BF This campaign, which was implemented by the Mouvement Jeunesse Vision Burkina Faso, consist ed of carrying out awareness-raising and training actions for the benefit of pupils and schoolchildren in the district on respecting the highway code, good citizenship, tolerance on the road and wearing a protective helmet. The main objective being to reach all students in the targeted establishments. To combine business with pleasure, the Movement requested and obtained from its partner CIMFASO, 100 protective helmets for the benefit of students in need. As a reminder, the general objective of the Youth Vision Movement is to contribute to the promotion of the values ??of youth civic participation and road safety. The movement also intervenes in certain areas such as the promotion of human rights, good citizenship and responsible education of young people, the health of young people and adolescents through awareness raising on non-communicable diseases, and economic empowerment. young people and women.''
