Burkina: A week of orientation to allow new graduates to make better choices

The Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MESRI), Ardjima Thiombiano, opened on Tuesday, in Ouagadougou, the orientation week which aims to give new graduates, better choices and opportunities in the different universities.

"Today, it is a question of giving a better choice, a better opportunity to all these new graduates who will have no constraints to move definitively and obligatorily towards universities", declared the Minister of Higher Education. , research and innovation, Adjima Thiombiano.

Mr. Thiombiano was speaking on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, in Ouagadougou, at the official opening of the national week of information and orientation which was held at the "Rising Sun" pavilion of the International Exhibition of handicrafts of Ouagadougou (SIAO).

He specified that for years, his structure has made the effort to organize the week of information and orientation just after obtaining the baccalaureate results in order to support new baccalaureate holders to better pursue their university studies. .

According to Mr. Thiombiano, this Information and Orientation Week aims to give accurate information to new graduates so that they can truly make a reasoned choice for their training.

The minister affirmed that a reform has been undertaken by the government under the impetus of the President of the Transition, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, which aims to give the choice to any bachelor to go to another training other than a classical university. .

Professor Thiombiano informed that the government is in the process of putting in place conditions so that certain new graduates doing the technique are not obliged to go and do courses that are not desired and that they can move towards vocational training centers with the support of various social works.

Mr. Thiombiano also invited the parents of new graduates to support them in their choice of course instead of deciding for them because many parents do so and later these students are confronted with objective difficulties.

“Parents should listen carefully to students and pupils, taking into account not only their aspirations but also their potential,” he urged.

The 8th edition of National Information and Orientation Week began on Monday July 10 and continues until Saturday July 15, 2023.

Education Minister discusses bilateral cooperation with Saudi ambassador to Tunisia

Minister of Education Mohamed Ali Boughdiri underlined on Wednesday, during his meeting with Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Tunisia Abdulaziz Saker, the solid relations binding the two countries which are likely to further consolidate bilateral cooperation.

Boughdiri pointed to the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of education and teaching, investment in knowledge and intelligence and the sharing of training experience in service of the two sides' interests, according to an Education Ministry press release.

Saudi Arabia's ambassador, for his part, expressed his consideration for Tunisia, which has a wealth of skills, he said.

In this connection, he recalled the fruitful cooperation between the two countries, which will be further developed, notably in the education sector.

Thirteen bodies of sub-Saharan migrants recovered following shipwreck

Thirteen bodies of undocumented sub-Saharan migrants were recovered on Wednesday night off Sfax by National Guard units, while 25 others were rescued, said the National Guard's General Directorate.

Govt works to mobilise credit from banks and financial institutions

The financial authorities have launched the subscription to short-term treasury bonds (52 weeks), worth 1 billion dinars and paying an interest rate of 8.99%, according to data published Thursday by the Société interbancaire de télécompensation (SIBTEL).

In 2023, the State's recourse to borrowing from banks and financial institutions intensified. Baccalauréat 2023 sees success rate of 46.95% at resit session

The success rate in the resit session of the Baccalaureate exams has reached 46.95%. Out of a total of 40,748 candidates, 19,034 have been admitted, bringing the overall success rate for this examination to 50.91% (66,733 candidates admitted), announced Education Minister Mohamed Ali Boughdiri, in an exclusive statement to TAP on Thursday.

Boughdiri added that an evaluation meeting of the resit session is currently taking place at the ministry's headquarters, emphasising that the session was conducted under good conditions and saw a drop in cases of cheating.
